A hand-held tool used for pounding. A hammer has a heavy, hard steel head mounted across the end of its handle. There are a number of types of hammer heads. Cross peen and straight peen hammers have a wedge on one side of their head for shaping sheet metal.

A hand-held torch that uses liquid gasoline as a fuel. Air is pumped into the fuel tank, and the liquid fuel sprays out into the burner where it becomes a vapor. The air compressed in the tank blows through the flame and intensifies it.
Gasoline blowtorches have been replaced, to a great extent, by torches using propane or other liquified petroleum products as their fuel.

A handle that has a ratchet built into its head, and used to drive a socket wrench. Back-and-forth movement of the handle causes the socket to rotate in one direction. By reversing the pawl in the ratchet head, the same back-and-forth movement of the handle will rotate the socket in the opposite direction.

Industry:Aviation
A hand-operated fluid pump that moves fluid only during one stroke of the pump handle. One stroke pulls the fluid into the pump, and the other forces the fluid out.
Industry:Aviation
A hand-operated hydraulic pump unloading valve. When the valve is open, fluid flows from the pump to the reservoir with little opposition. To actuate a unit, the selector valve is turned to select the desired actuation and the power control valve is manually closed. Pressurized fluid flows to the unit, and when actuation is completed, the power control valve automatically opens.
